Your family technology coach

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Hello. I am a blogger.a content creator.a tech expert.a public speaker.a fixer.a movie quoter.a family technology coach.

I started my career in IT in 2003 when I joined the IT department at a home builder in Southern California. I soon moved on to an IT consulting firm, as an IT Manager. After I moved to Utah, I worked with a different IT consulting firm, and I stayed with them for over 8 years.

During my time as an IT manager, I also created a blog to help families understand technology better called FamilyTechZone.com.

I recently left the IT consulting world to focus more on helping families navigate our new digital world. Through FamilyTech.biz I am able to put the skills I have gained throughout my long career in the IT field and bring more families into the future! There is so much amazing technology out there, and I want to help coach your family to get the most out of it!

I love to writespeakteach about technology.

My passion is helping parents understand how new technology can change their life, make it easier, or even better! I have a unique background that can be valuable to families. As I connect your family to the digital age.

TESTIMONIALS

KATHLEEN

KATHLEEN K SUGAR & SPICE

“Through the grape-vine I had heard of Sarah Kimmel. Words like, wizard – techie goddess – blog medium – genius always followed her name…I raised the white flag and reached out to her.
She was there. Swift, fast and precise. I knew I was in the right hands by the questions she was asking and the quick GoDaddy “change of domain” acknowledgements Gmail was providing. By 9pm the dust had settled and all was well. She rode off into the sunset.”

  • Helping Your Kids Stay Connected When School Is Out
by Sarah Kimmel on March 25, 2020 at 7:45 pm

These are definitely challenging times. Most children are now attending school from home. Parents are working from home where possible. Very little social interaction is taking place as the nation starts practicing social distancing. A word we’d never really heard or used before, but is quickly becoming part of our everyday language. Many children are

  • Movies Anywhere Beta Tests Movie Sharing With Screen Pass
by Sarah Kimmel on March 24, 2020 at 2:04 am

As I have mentioned MANY times, I have a vast and expansive movie collection. Not only do I have a huge library of Digital Titles, but I also have a massive collection of discs. We like to have the discs on hand in case there is an internet outage so we can still watch our

  • Tips to Help You Work From Home
by Sarah Kimmel on March 15, 2020 at 8:40 pm

For about 10 years of my 16-year career in the IT industry, I worked exclusively from home. I lived in Utah, but the company I worked for was located in Southern Calfornia. I always said that I could fix anything remotely, short of internet connection issues and hardware issues (since I was unable to be

  • Vudu Releases New “Lists” Feature
by Sarah Kimmel on March 15, 2020 at 12:20 am

My favorite streaming platform, Vudu, released a brand new lists feature this week that has me super excited. The service now allows you to create customized lists for your movies, and even movies you don’t yet own. Previously, you had very limited sort options. When you were browsing through your movies you could choose to

  • T-Mobile & Sprint Bump Everyone to Unlimited Data
by Sarah Kimmel on March 14, 2020 at 1:33 am

These are definitely trying and uncertain times. The Coronavirus has been rapidly spreading and wreaking havoc on the economy and entertainment/sports industry. Grocery stores have been cleaned out and something new gets canceled every day. Some companies are really stepping up, though, and trying to make sure people are taken care of. While Disneyland and

  • Group Text Etiquette
by Sarah Kimmel on March 10, 2020 at 3:06 pm

In 5th grade, my teacher would always exclaim “I can’t have anything nice” anytime our class would ruin a good thing. I seem to use this phrase a lot in my own adult life. The busy road near my house used to allow people to turn left when safe to do so. There were so

  • How to Layer Your Parental Controls
by Sarah Kimmel on March 9, 2020 at 1:18 pm

People ask me all the time what the best parental control apps are. The tricky thing is that there really isn’t a clear winner. It takes several applications and several layers of protection to feel confident about protecting your children from the dangers of technology. Even with all the best protection available, there will still

  • How Tech Can Help With Your Grammar
by Sarah Kimmel on March 2, 2020 at 2:40 pm

I know many people will say that technology is ruining grammar, and that can absolutely be true. Really I blame T9 texting. When it took 4 key presses to get to a capital T, proper punctuation and grammar kinda flew out the window. These days we are blessed with full keyboards on our smartphones, so

  • The Great GIF – JIF Debate
by Sarah Kimmel on February 26, 2020 at 5:12 am

As someone firmly in the “hard g” camp, this debate is near and dear to my heart. I saw someone on twitter once say that God himself could come down and say it’s pronounced “Jif” and he would just say… I’ll take that into consideration Jod. The debate really stems from the fact that the

  • The Best Family-Friendly TV Shows to Watch
by Sarah Kimmel on February 24, 2020 at 1:58 pm

I really love movies and TV shows. In fact, I was once on a game show that featured movies, tv and music trivia called Beat the Geeks. When I was a kid I would sit and watch Sledge Hammer or Quantum Leap with my Dad every week. I loved the time we would spend together
